Berlin Airlift

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world - Nelson Mandela

Dear Teacher

Thank you for choosing to teach your pupils about the Berlin Airlift. We hope that these lesson plans will engage and inform them, whilst creating some lively debate around an often forgotten but incredibly important chapter of Cold War History.

You’ll see that the pack contains 5 Lesson plans and 1 Activity sheet.

Each individual lesson plan contains: briefing notes, headline facts, photographs, maps, discussion points and eye-witness statements which, when clicked, will play on YouTube. The Activity sheet contains all actual tasks that each pupil will need to complete and, once printed off should be returned at the end of the session.

These resources have been created in partnership with Bungay High School in Suffolk and were created with exam syllabic in mind. We believe they offer an interesting and alternative way for GCSE teachers to deliver the topic of the Berlin Airlift.

During the course of this Lottery funded project, we filmed interviews with over 5O British Veterans of the Berlin Airlift - which can all be accessed via our website. Here you can also access photographs and other items of personal memorabilia, which you might like to incorporate into your teaching.

If you need any help or guidance, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Many thanks.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO CONSIDER THIS
Legasee is one of the first consolidated attempts to document the war-time experiences of men and women who have served their country.  While remembrance ceremonies and battle anniversaries are regularly reported on TV,  this coverage rarely focuses on veterans’ personal experiences for more than a few seconds and is of limited value as an educational tool or a record of individual achievement. Legasee aims to cover military life in much more depth by focusing on personal stories and viewpoints. If you think this work is important, please consider a donation. PLEASE DONATE NOW
