A very interesting interview highlighting some of the difficult tasks Allied troops faced on the D Day landings. Ian was the commander of squadron of tanks tasked to clear minefields and obstacles on the beaches and
beyond so Allied troops could make their advances on the German defensive positions. On his second day he accepted the surrender of German troops that turned out to be Russians that had been given the choice fighting for
the Germans or being sent to labour camps. Some very emotional moments when Len recalls scenes that have never left him, such as when an injured German SS trooper that he captured turned out to be a 15 year old boy
who pleaded with him not to let the medics take him away on a stretcher when he saw they were Polish.
